Introduction to Modern and Contemporary Art from the 20th to the 21st century.
A course of art history exploring Modern and Contemporary Art. Introduction to key concepts,
major artists and artworks. In these enjoyable classes topics are discussed together to develop visual
skills enabling students to engage with a diverse range of images and objects for pleasure or further
study.
Discussed themes and topics include:
- The origins of Modern Art. Experiments in Colour and Form.
- Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts Movement.
- From Cubism to Geometric Abstraction.
- Expressionism in Germany and Austria. Art in Totalitarian Systems Dada and Surrealism.
- A shift to New York – American Art and Architecture
