The Certificate in Fitness Instruction is an entry-level industry recognised qualification suitable for the health and fitness enthusiast. During this course students will gain knowledge and practical skills to design and teach a range of basic gym-based exercise programmes for the general population on a one-to-one basis.
The award meets the standards required by REPS Ireland for entry to the Fitness Instructor category of the exercise professional register (www.repsireland.ie)

Entry Requirements | Ordinarily, applicants should be 17 years of age with 5 Leaving Certificate grade D passes, including English and Mathematics. Applicants without these minimum requirements please see our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process in the Student Information section. Applicants must have an interest in their own personal fitness. Students over 23 years of age may be exempted from this requirement if they can demonstrate that they are suitable candidates for the course of study. Career Path | Progression and Employment Opportunities Students who successfully complete the Certificate in Fitness Instruction or who hold another recognised qualification in Fitness Instruction can further enhance their skill set by applying for the 10 credit Certificate in Group Fitness Instruction and/or the 30 credit Certificate in Personal Training. The health and fitness industry will be the principal source of employment for graduates. Graduates may also apply for entry to relevant full-time programmes in WIT including the BA(Hons) in Exercise and Health Studies and the BBS(Ord) in Recreation and Sport Management. Exemptions may be granted on these full-time programmes for related fitness instructor modules. |
