University College Cork (UCC)
UCC University College Cork runs courses, part-time courses and education programmes to Cork and the Greater Munster area. The Adult Continuing Education Department’s purpose is to provide UCC Courses and opportunities in lifelong learning for all adults irrespective of age and previous educational achievements.
Adult Continuing Education (ACE), University College Cork has been offering courses and education programmes to Cork and the greater Munster area since 1946 and is proud to celebrate 65 years of educational services to the community. The first Diploma in Social and Economic Science course was formally opened at a public meeting in University College, Cork on the 14th October, 1946 and 24 students were awarded the diploma in June 1948.
UCC courses are run at UCC to cater for the particular needs of adult learners. Our staff adopt the particular approach needed to enhance adults’ learning so that all students may have a rewarding educational experience.
Since 1908, University College Cork has grown from 115 students to over 20,000, from one building to dozens, from less than 20 staff to more than 1,600 today. Since 1997, they have become a university in their own right within the NUI, but they retain the UCC name as part of their heritage of learning since 1845. University College Cork offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses along with International, Adult Further Education and Online programmes for aspiring students. The college has schools and departments in Business, Arts and Humanities, Science, Architecture, Computing, Medicine, Engineering and more.
Along with housing sports facilities such as The Mardyke, Synthetic Pitch and Human Performance Laboratory, University College Cork promotes health to its students by presenting various health campaigns that encourage healthy living. At UCC there is also a wide range of clubs and societies for students to avail – Boxing, Camogie, Chess, Fencing, Hip Hop, Judo, Kickboxing, Rowing, Rugby, Surfing, Swimming and much more.
