Ancient Ireland – Introduction

An Introduction to Ancient Ireland is designed to enable students to explore cultural aspects of early Ireland, and will illuminate connections between its literature, mythology, religion, society and material culture. Giving particular emphasis to early medieval tales, as a window onto both the culture which produced them and the traditions on which they drew, this short course will open up a rich world of myth, legend, poetry, history and traditions, providing an understanding of the past which enriches our view of the present.
The course will run over 10 weeks and will be taught by postgraduate students of the Department of Early and Medieval Irish. This course has been approved by the Department of Early and Medieval Irish, UCC: www.ucc.ie/en/smg/. No previous knowledge is required.
