Are you considering a career as a Special Needs Assistant? Forus Training’s Level 5 Special Needs Assisting course is starting on September 20th 2021.
Sign up today to gain this valuable QQI accredited qualification. This 7 week course will provide you with knowledge of the practices and principles underpinning the role of a Special Needs Assistant. You will learn how to work effectively under direction in a special needs assisting capacity. The course will be delivered through a blend of virtual sessions and self directed learning allowing you to learn at your own pace without compromising on vital trainer support.

Throughout this programme, you will discover how to;
  • Explore the rights of children with disabilities in relation to personal autonomy, participation and decision making,
  • Use care routines in feeding, toileting and general hygiene,
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with children parents, primary carers, teachers and other members of the multidisciplinary team,
  • Work effectively with children who present with disabilities under the direction of the classroom teacher,
  • Assist children with disabilities in a range of activities,ensuring equality of opportunity through working in a safe and professional manner,
  • Reflect on personal practice working with children,their parents or guardians and colleagues ensuring that children’s individuality is promoted and that their needs are met.

 


Assessment

The course 5N1786 Special Needs Assisting is assessed in the following ways, with the following weighting;

  • Skills Demonstration 60%
  • Learner Record 40%

Skills Demonstration 60%;

A skills demonstration is used to assess a wide range of practical based learning outcomes including practical skills and knowledge. A skills demonstration will require the learner to complete a task or series of tasks that demonstrate a range of skills.

Learner Record 40%;

A learner record is the learner’s self-reported and self-reflective record in which he/she describes specific learning experiences, activities, responses and skills acquired.

 


Tutor Support

Learner Pack

  • When you enrol on a course, you will receive a printed learner pack from your trainer on the first session of the event.
  • This learner pack contains clear assessment instructions and comprehensive material to support you as you complete the course.
  • The pack will also include induction information as well as forms that you will complete during and at the end of your course.

Trainer Support

  • The trainer provides support to learners, including issuing feedback on draft work you will submit. Expect to wait up to 72 hours for a response by email from your trainer. Many of our trainers have full time jobs as well as training with us this means they will have up-to-date sector specific information, but also means that you need to allow a little time for them to get back to you. Our trainers are current with practice in the sector in which they work.
  • Trainers can, by appointment, make time available to you before or after class to answer your queries that cannot be covered in the session. They can also make an appointment with you to discuss your work on a telephone call.

Career Path This course leads to an award on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this programme may use their credits towards completing a higher level of study in the area of Health and Social Care. Students who successfully complete this Major Award can also use the Certificate as the basis for entry into selected courses in Third Level Colleges and Universities.
