Introduction
This QQI Level 8 Certificate in Improving Clinical Outcomes programme consists of one 10 ECTS module that is conferred as a minor award. Feedback informed therapy is a ‘pantheoretical approach for evaluating and improving the quality and effectiveness of behavioural health services’ (Bargmann et al, 2012). This minor award is designed to support learners in developing clinical and case management skills to improve the quality and outcome of therapy via the use of client feedback and the best available scientific evidence. The certificate will develop learners’ knowledge; understanding and competence in developing feedback informed practice. This module adds to the learner’s toolkit of strategies for use in developing a personalised, theoretical and research informed clinical practice.
Course Content
The course will include the following themes:
- The scientific underpinnings to therapy outcome
- Behavioural health outcomes
- The therapeutic alliance
- Properties of alliance and outcome measures (issues of validity & reliability)
- The science of measurement, analysis and reporting
- Psychometrics of the outcome rating scale and session rating scale
- Administering outcome and process measures
- The science of monitoring tools
- Use of monitoring tools as a therapeutic tool
- Feedback informed clinical work
- Documentation of change
- Working with couples, families and children, groups and mandated clients in a feedback informed manner
- Adjustment of therapy based on feedback
- Expert performance and deliberate practice
- Using feedback informed therapy as a management approach

Entry Requirements | Learners who enrol in this programme will be professionals who will be professionals who work clinically and therapeutically with clients who may be experiencing bereavement through suicide, and who wish to undertake a shorter programme to enhance their knowledge, skills and competence in the area of working with survivors of suicide. Learners must have a clinical qualification that allows them to work therapeutically with clients. This programme is ideal for qualified practitioners to enhance their proficiency is using feedback and other tools to improve their outcomes.
