Participant Profile

This QQI LEVEL 6 programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence relevant to the theory and practice of Person Centred Planning, to implement person centred planning approaches in a specific workplace context.

Programme Description                   

• Explain the concept of person centred planning, to include origins, the key features, characteristics and benefits
• Examine the effectiveness of a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to person centred planning
• Analyse a range of theories of and approaches to person centred planning
• Outline relevant Irish legislation in the field of disability and rehabilitation and its effect on the way the person centred planning process is conducted
• Assess the challenges for an organisation in the person centred planning process
• Examine the resources necessary to ensure that person centred planning will make a significant difference in an individual’s life
• Outline the roles of individuals involved in the person centred planning process
• Identify practical examples of good practice in person centred planning
• Recognise the importance of communication in the person centred planning process and the barriers to effective communication
• Explain the importance of managing the tensions between the interests of organisations and focus persons
• Compare person centred planning approaches from an Irish and International context
• Assess a specific organisations commitment to person centred planning
• Examine the implementation and evaluation of person centred planning in a specific organisation
• Analyse recent developments in Ireland in the area of person centred planning
