RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) entry route to Level 8:
This course is aimed at the nurse who qualified at certificate level and who wishes to develop their knowledge base to enhance practice development. It provides an opportunity for the individual to reflect and record the contribution they give to nursing, to record their development in a structured format demonstrating achievements and professionals goals, to develop writing skills and extend their knowledge base to prepare for entry to further academic courses. There are 4 modules at 15 credits each to complete.
Level 8: BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies
The BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies is aimed at qualified nurses who seek a primary degree at honours level. The BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies is aimed at registered nurses who have a diploma or equivalent award. The course comprises six 10-credit modules, i.e. 60 credits (Level 8). Students must complete five mandatory modules and one elective.

Level 8: BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies Universally Irish nurses are highly regarded in other countries thus enhancing work opportunities. Graduates who wish to pursue a career in specialist nursing can apply for Higher Diploma courses/ MSc in areas such as gerontology, coronary care, peri-operative care, paediatric nursing, maternal and child health and accident and emergency nursing. Alternatively, graduates may choose to pursue advanced studies in nursing education or nursing management.
