This Level 9 Post Graduate Certificate in M&E Quantity Surveying has been designed to provide the knowledge, skills and expertise in Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveying to qualified practitioners in Quantity Surveying and in the ‘services’ disciplines who wish to expand their knowledge-base and create work possibilities in this specialised area.

This Level 9 Post Graduate Certificate in M&E Quantity Surveying has been designed to provide the knowledge, skills and expertise in Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveying to qualified practitioners in Quantity Surveying and in the ‘services’ disciplines who wish to expand their knowledge-base and create work possibilities in this specialised area.

The SCSI have established, through recent surveys, a significant skills shortage in the area. In response to this demand, successful interaction between IT Sligo and industry stakeholders has commenced and evolved to enable the development of this innovative online course offering.  The Post Graduate Certificate in M&E Quantity Surveying will help address the very acute industry need for competently qualified M&E Quantity Surveyors.

 

The modules within this programme allow employability skills to be integrated within the curriculum, enabling students to develop communication skills, appreciate and improve on general literacy and digital literacy skills, improve problem-solving capability, creative and organisational skills. The core of this course centres around the development of technical proficiencies with respect to Building Services Technology and the Measurement of same in accordance with prescribed methodologies.  The flexible delivery of the programme, using online lecture delivery, will enable a widest possible cohort of students to avail of the offering.  Lecture recordings, a repository of academic material and on-line forums will be made available to students to afford maximum study flexibility.

The Post Graduate Certificate will be completed by part-time online mode over one academic year. The course will contain a combination of six modules of 5 ECTS, giving a total of 30 ECTS for the programme.  Semester 1 will focus on Electrical Services Technology and Measurement.  Semester 2 will follow with an emphasis on Mechanical Services Technology and Measurement. There are 4 mandatory modules and 5 electives, 2 of which (electives) are to be selected by the learner subject to viability. There are no pre-requisite modules and learners may enter the course upon commencement of Semester 1 but must complete 30 credits to graduate.

Entry Requirements To qualify for direct entry to the Post Graduate Certificate in Mechanical & Electrical Quantity Surveying a standard applicant will ideally hold a level 8 Qualification in Quantity Surveying or Building Services or other cognate discipline. For candidates without level 8 qualifications, a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be undertaken to assess the candidates’ suitability to the course.
Career Path The programme aims to produce graduates for the services sector in the Quantity Surveying profession and in doing so will help address the current knowledge and skills deficit with respect to Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveying practitioners. Graduates of the programme will typically be involved with Professional Quantity Surveying practices and or Building Services designers/providers etc. Upon successful completion of the Post-Graduate Certificate in Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveying students may be eligible to progress on to the Level 9 MSC in Project Management. As this programme has 4 modules in the MSc in Project Management, graduates will be exempt these 4 modules if they chose to progress to his master’s programme.
