Introduction to Roman History
Trinity College Dublin
This lecture-only module provides an introductory survey of the history of the Greek and Roman world, from the Greek Archaic age (c.700 BC) to the death of Augustus in AD 14. The main
trends and issues of this period will be explored including colonisation, imperialism, war, the Athenian invention of democracy, the rise of Alexander, and the emergence of Rome as a major power in the Mediterranean. There will also be discussion of the main historical sources.
