The Downtown Lexington Partnership (DLP) is collaborating with senior integrated strategic communication students in a University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information Event Planning program to create this year’s annual downtown Christmas Parade.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, and is expected to become a holiday tradition in Lexington. Following an unconventional inverted parade last year, UK students and DLP are pleased to bring normal parade operations back to the city.

“We are ecstatic to work with these talented and dedicated students to bring a fantastic parade to Lexington in 2021,” says the group “DLP vice president of development and events Laura Farnsworth stated. “We will welcome several new high-energy entrants to the parade as a consequence of their efforts, as well as marketing and events in our downtown shops that will draw new customers to their front doors.”

Participants are recruited, events are promoted, merchant activities are held, and logistics are handled by students in a variety of teams. The participation of downtown businesses to offer special events before, during, and after the parade is a new feature that the students are working on adding.

Along with the parade, attendees can expect a jam-packed day of activities and events. And, the parade will be jam-packed with local bands, floats, and, of course, everyone’s favorite cheerful fellow at the conclusion. As the procession approaches, stay tuned for additional information!
