About Sculpture
Sculpture, in simple terms, is an artistic form in which plastic or hard materials are worked into three-dimensional art objects. A wide array of materials can be used, including wax, stone, clay, metal, glass, fabric, wood, rubber, plaster and random ‘found’ objects. Sculpture is not just a fixed term that applied to a permanently circumscribed category of objects or sets of activities. Rather, it is the name of an art that changes and grows and is continually extending the range of its activities and evolving new sorts of objects.
What Will I Learn?
Each sculpture course varies depending on the level of the course and the course provider. However, there are some topics you can expect to explore in every sculpture course. Therefore, you can expect to be given an introduction to sculpture in terms of the materials used to make sculptures and how to manipulate these materials to create beautiful sculptures. In other words, you will learn how to make and cast molds using waste, piece, slump and rubber molds. You will also explore figure sculpture in terms of examining processes and materials for sculpture figures using a live model. You will explore investigating clay sculpture techniques focused on armatures, tool use and anatomy and individual styles. Also, you will learn about woodcarving and metal sculpture. In other words, you will explore the basic techniques of forming metals, welding and carving wood.
