Considering a Fire Warden Training Course?

Fires, explosions, or gas leaks are unpredictable. You can’t control what’s going to happen in the future, but you can control how ready you are to respond, support, and minimize any damage – and that’s where the fire marshal training comes in.

If you are a business owner, a manager, or an employee, you must become acquainted with health and safety policies and strategies, including where responsibility lies when a fire occurs. Under the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order of 2005 business owners and employers are obligated to have both general fire safety training for all staff members and certified fire warden training for appointed staff.

What Does a Fire Warden Do?

Fire wardens are often referred to as fire marshals. Although it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that fire safety measures are enforced, such as fire alarm systems, escape routes, fire extinguishers, etc., fire wardens play an important role in maintaining these measures. A fire warden’s job is to ensure that fire safety plans are properly in place and that everyone is quickly and safely evacuated from the premises in the event of a fire.

Some of the duties of a fire warden are:

  • Developing a fire evacuation and emergency plan, as well as keeping it up to date.
  • Ensuring the proper installation of fire-fighting and safety equipment.
  • Ensuring that fire-fighting equipment is always readily available and in good working order.
  • Carrying out fire risk assessments.
  • Carrying out fire drills and assessing results.
  • Taking quick, appropriate action in the event of a fire, i.e. evacuation and fighting fires.
  • Monitoring fire safety at all times.
  • Actively adopting good fire safety practices.
  • Checking all fire doors.

Most of this simply involves a periodic analysis and evaluation of current safety policies and procedures in the workplace. It includes being aware of any major developments that could compromise fire safety and taking steps to introduce new measures to avoid the outbreak of fires.

The most critical part of your role as fire warden is to be prepared for an actual fire. And often, despite how carefully we plan and prepare, things sometimes go horribly wrong. If they do, you need to be ready to jump into action.

What will I learn?

These courses will allow attendees to implement fire safety plans, procedures, and measures concerning fire safety in the workplace and also learn to evacuate staff safely.

Being a fire warden or a marshal is a big responsibility and includes a range of very specific and critical tasks, so if you already have a part to play in your organisations fire safety plan or are looking to step up, a fire warden training course will cover everything you need to know to keep your company and fellow employees safe.
