You should always consider doing a course so that you can perform the role successfully. The good news is there is an abundance of eyelashes courses currently available. In addition, they offer lots of flexibility, providing part time, evening class and online class options.

History of Eyelash Extensions

In 1902, Karl Nessler, a famous hairdresser and inventor, patented a method in the UK for weaving artificial eyelashes and eyebrows. In 1903, he was already selling artificial eyelashes in his London salon. In the US, the patent for false eyelashes was filed by Anna Taylor from Canada in 1911. Although, like many other things, it was popular culture that led to a more widespread use of false eyelash extensions.

In 1916, film director D.W. Griffith was working on his film named ‘Intolerance’ and he wanted the actress Seena Owen to have long eyelashes in order to make her eyes stand out. He made use of false eyelashes that were made of human hair woven through a fine gauze material. As false eyelash techniques improved, they became even more popular with the public in the 1930s and again in the 1960s.

The original false eyelashes gave shape to more advanced designs, such as eyelashes bunch that were used to thicken specific areas of the eyelashes. The 1960s style of eyelashes was daring and bold with an exaggerated touch for the general style of the time. In the 21st century, more advanced methods of eyelash extensions began to be used and now, false eyelashes are utilised by everyday people.

What Will I Learn?

Each eyelashes course will vary depending on the course provider. However, there are some topics you can expect to learn in just about any eyelashes course. Therefore, you can expect to learn about the history of eyelashes, the tools of the trade, how to create eyelash styles and how to do eyelash extensions. You will also explore how to remove eyelash extensions and how to build your own eyelash extension business in terms of branding, legal and administration guidelines. Additionally, you will learn the anatomy of the eyes and lashes and ergonomics which refers to how to create a comfortable working environment. Some courses may cover more than you read here. If you would like an exact list of topics, do not hesitate to contact your course provider.

Course Progression

After completing your eyelashes course, there is the opportunity to progress in the form of doing additional courses in related fields. For example, doing a beauty therapy course, a massage course or an acrylic nail course to name a few. It’s up to you but doing additional courses will help to enhance your CV and help you in securing more jobs.
