The good news is there are tons of electrical installation courses currently available and they are available for a variety of levels.

About Electrical Installation

An electrical installation comprises all the fixed electrical equipment that is supplied through the electricity meter. It includes the cables that are generally hidden in the ceilings and walls, accessories such as switches, light fittings and sockets and the consumer unit (fusebox) that contains all the fuses, circuit-breakers and preferably residual current devices (RCDs). There are many elements that contribute to a good electrical installation. These elements include ensuring that there are enough sockets for electrical appliances, to minimise the use of multiway socket adapters and trailing leads and that covers are in place to prevent fingers from coming into contact with live parts. In addition, ensuring a residual current device (RCD) protection is installed to provide additional protection against electric shock and that satisfactory earthing arrangements are in place to make sure that a circuit breaker or fuse can quickly clear an electrical fault before it causes a fire or electric shock. Finally, ensuring that satisfactory protective bonding arrangements are in place where needed and that sufficient circuits are provided and cables are correctly selected and installed.

What Will I Learn?

The course will explore electrical installation theory and technology and electrical installation methods, procedures and requirements. Students will learn electrical installation craft skills, electrical science and principles as well as health and safety. Structures of the construction industry, fundamental safe working practices, environmental and sustainability measures and site preparation will also be explored. You will learn about fabrication techniques, electrical science and technology and gain an introduction to the basic methods and techniques of different wiring systems used in the electrical installation industry.
