Course Objectives:

This qualification aims to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments.

Who is it for?

  • The programme is for people who are working or wish to work as Teaching Assistants at Key Stages 1-4 and gain a nationally-recognised qualification. It can also help graduates to begin a career as a learning support assistant or special needs assistant.
  • It is suitable for learners not yet in a school role but who have the capability to achieve at Level 3, or learners in a Level 2 role wishing to demonstrate that they are ready for progression to Level 3.
  • It is also suitable as initial training for those newly in post.

Course Description:

The Level 3 Award includes four of the mandatory units required to gain the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. This enables credits and learning to be transferred from this qualification to the Level 3 Certificate and provides a direct progression route.

The online training course comprehensively covers the four modules that are listed under the curriculum. It is intended to be completed in 80 guided learning hours.

These are the four mandatory units that are required to achieve the NCFE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools:

Unit 1: Understand Child and Young Person Development

This unit provides knowledge and understanding of how children and young people develop from birth to the age of 19, including underpinning theoretical perspectives.

It also covers the actions taken when differences in development are identified and the potential effects of transitions on children and young people.

Unit 2: Understand How to Safeguard the Well-being of Children and Young People

This unit provides the knowledge and understanding required to safeguard children and young people. It also contains material on e-safety.

Unit 3: Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults

This unit provides knowledge and understanding of how to communicate effectively and build professional relationships with children, young people and adults.

Unit 4: Schools as Organisations

This unit aims to prepare the learner for working in a school. It covers knowledge and understanding of how schools operate.

Course Duration:

You will receive 6 months of access to your online study platform from the date that you purchase the course. Within the 6 month period, you can decide how quickly or slowly the training goes. It’s perfectly possible to complete the course in stages and fit your work in around your other commitments.

Method of Assessment:

The Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools is a knowledge-based qualification. As a result, a school placement is not required to successfully complete this course. Instead, you will be assessed through a series of written assignments.

The course has four units and there is an assignment for each that will need to be completed and submitted for marking. Your tutor will observe your progress and provide you with any necessary assistance.

Certification:

On successful completion, you will receive the industry recognised NCFE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF).

NCFE is recognised as an awarding organisation by the respective qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. These are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Welsh Government in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCA) in Northern Ireland.

Entry Requirement:

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you will need to have a good command of basic English and be at least 16 years of age. This is an online course, so you will also need easy access to the internet.
