Special Needs Assistant/Community Care Assistant (QQI Level 5)

Course Title: Special Needs Assisting / Community Care Assistant (QQI Level 5 Community Care (5M2786) Component Award – 4 modules)
This course is designed for learners who wish to work as Special Needs Assistants (SNA) in schools and also in other care settings in the community. Learners will achieve FOUR QQI Level 5 Minor Awards on completion of Year 1.
Learners have the option to obtain a full Community Care (5M2786) QQI Level 5 Major Award on completion of a second year which will include the Special Needs Assisting QQI Level 6 Component Award.
Course Duration: September 2020 to May 2021
Wednesday: 6.30pm – 9.30pm Marino College FE, Connolly House, North Strand, Dublin 1.
*Please note day and venue may change and will be confirmed on Tuesday 8th September, 2020 at Induction Meeting.
Course Fee: €595 per year (This includes assessment registration with QQI)
Proposed Start Date: Wednesday, 16th September 2020.

Certification: QQI Level 5 Community Care (5M2786) Component Certification on successful completion of Year 1. Full QQI Level 5 Community Care (5M2786) Major Award on successful completion of Year 2.
Students should be aware that year 2 will be offered subject to sufficient enrolments.
Participant Criteria:
Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent. However, applications will also be considered from people without these qualifications.
Students are required to complete 50 hours of Work Experience PER TERM, which they must arrange themselves. Ideally, Work Experience should be done one day per week and must run for the full duration of the course (October / April).
Students must undergo Garda Vetting, which is mandatory in a Care Setting, either through the College or directly through their work experience placement. Alternatively already have acquired Garda Vetting through their current place of related employment.
