Course Description

Diploma in Interior Design

Griffith College Dublin (GCD)

About The Course

If you have a desire to enter interior design, but haven’t had exposure to or enjoyed a related background, then this is the course for you. You will be immediately engaged with the principles of design; pursuing different communication techniques allowing you to present your work in a clear and confident manner.

This two-year Interior Design diploma can be taken as a full-time or evening access course. To meet current best practice in industry, modules in branding and visual merchandising now complement those of building regulations, health and safety, and furniture and lighting design. You will have the skills to produce creative and technically proficient interior designs, which may be explained digitally, by hand, or in 3 dimensions.

Awards

The quality of our students’ work has been recognised throughout the interior design and architecture industry in both awards and exhibitions.

Industry recognition

The Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) recognises the BA in Interior Design (Level 7) and the Griffith College Dublin Diploma in Interior Design.

Industry links

During the course you’ll be taught by practising architects, designers, buyers, and art historians, ensuring that the faculty maintains strong industry links. Our courses are regularly reviewed by industry professionals to ensure we are meeting the current needs of the industry and following best practice. Professionals from industry are regularly invited to give guest lectures, and in our award years, participate in critiquing student work.

Interior Design Internships

Fashion students have been awarded internships at Avoca, FeeG, Helen McAlinden, Jennifer Rothwell, Joanne Hynes, Liz Quin and Louis Copeland. Design students have also secured internships with HJ Lyons and Jonathan Adler N.Y.C.

Field trips

Experiential learning is an important part of our courses, therefore most modules have class trips as a part of their curriculum. Every year the faculty travels internationally and nationally to places with both current and historical interior design importance. Previous trips have included London, Rome, Milan, Berlin, Paris, Bilbao, Barcelona, and Venice.

Creative Week

A key date in our calendar is the annual Creative Week showcase. This showcase gives graduates of Interior Design a platform to present their work alongside those of media, journalism, computing, film, and photography. Not only will this exhibit give you the experience of showcasing to industry standards, but it allows for extensive PR and networking opportunities.
