Learn the skills to create industry standard graphics, for print and online. This course will take you through the popular Adobe tools used in the industry, so you can get up and running.
You will learn essential techniques Desktop Publishers use for print media such as brochures and books, designing logos, creating pdf documents and more. This part-time course concentrates on the fundamentals of the Adobe platforms essential for the desktop industry and people in marketing and communications roles.
On completion of this programme, you will be competent in the use of digital mediums, the basic creative and technical aspects of image editing, and the manipulation and design professional looking material using industry-leading software.
On completion of the Diploma in Web Design graduates will be able to:
- Establish competence in creating artwork for digital mediums
- Establish competence in the basic creative and technical aspects of image editing and manipulation
- Design professional looking material using industry leading software
The course consists of four modules which cover the four main applications:
- Adobe InDesign – used to design and layout publications such as brochures, magazines and posters.
- Adobe Illustrator – a vector graphics editor and is used for illustration design for logos, graphics and simple layouts.
- Adobe Photoshop – a graphics editing programme that is used to edit, retouch and prepare images for publishing on the Web and in print.
- Adobe Acrobat – a PDF editor that can view, create and manipulate Portable Document Formats (PDF).
These are the industry standard programmes used for Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design.
During the programme there is a strong emphasis on the importance of a clear understanding of the print industry so that you not only know how to use the applications but also fully understand how to send the files to print.
The course also examines the design, colour and layout of documents/images for print.

Entry Requirements | This course has been developed for those with little or no prior publishing experience, but a desire to understand computational approaches to solution provision. You will learn the fundamental concepts and terminology of the software utilised, and develop skills in designing materials for publication.
