Course Description
Creative Writing, Introduction (Evening Class)
People’s College for Continuing Education and Training
Creative Writing, Introduction (Evening Class).
There will be two terms of twelve weeks each and participants can sign up to both or to either the first or second part.
The first term will cover the basics of writing personal reminiscence, fiction and poetry, with class exercises providing a jump start. This class is also useful for people who have done some writing already but who feel the need for the discipline of a class, as well as feedback on their work.
Optional home assignments will also be set, the facilitator reading everything handed in. Participants will be encouraged to read out their work to the group in a supportive environment as a way of gaining confidence in their voice on the page.
At the end of the second term, a collection of writings will be produced in conjunction with the other creative writing classes and participants from all groups will be encouraged to contribute to this.
This workshop is for those who want to discover and develop their creative writing skills by exploring the imagination, overcoming fear, developing a writing habit and finding a voice. Trigger exercises and writing games will be used and assignments will be set. Constructive feedback will be given to those who bring work.
