The biopharmaceutical sector of the pharmaceutical industry is fast becoming an important producer of complex compounds/molecules known as biologics used in the targeted treatment of important diseases. Irelands pharmaceutical sector is now an important global centre for biopharmaceutics attracting world leaders and major investment. Nine of the world top ten pharmaceutical companies have substantial operations in Ireland. The sector employs 25,000+ directly and as many more indirectly.
The manufacture of biopharmaceutical products requires teams of skilled scientists and engineers and there is already an emerging shortage of graduates with bio pharmaceutics experience to meet the growing demand.
The Certificate in Biopharmaceutical Processes is designed to provide the required training to graduates of laboratory science with majors in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology or related disciplines. This will allow graduates to supplement their core skills to meet the requirements of the biopharmaceutical sector.
The programme is delivered at the IT Tralee, South Campus. Students will also receive training on state of the art bioprocessing plant and equipment at the National Institute for Bioprocessing research & Training (NIBRT) facility. graduates with this minor award will be well positioned to apply for roles with biopharmaceutical processing companies.
