Animal Welfare (5N0753) & Animal Behaviour (5N0751)    –  QQI Level 5 Component Awards

Structure and Duration:   Evening adult learning course run over 23 weeks based on one 3 hour (6.30pm-9.30pm) class per week on Monday  evenings. This course will take place online and have some classroom based elements for practical aspects.

Cost: €450.00 per student

Purpose of Course:   The purpose of the programme is to prepare participants for a career in the animal care industry and provide a stepping block for those who wish to progress with other studies in animal science, animal behaviour or animal care. Areas of the industry which participants will be prepared for include rescue and rehabilitation centres, kennels, stables, zoo keeping, pet shops or animal sanctuaries. The learners will develop an understanding of the process of domestication of animals and the provisions needed to promote physical and mental well being in domestic and captive animals. They will also equip participants with the knowledge, skills and competence to understand the behavioural strategies of a variety of domestic species and wild animal species and to care for and handle domestic and pet animals appropriately.

Participant Profile:   Potential participants are those with an interest in completing a QQI Level 5 certificate in Animal Care and Animal Behaviour;  those working within the animal care industry;  animal grooming or progressing onto further study in animal science;  animal behaviour or animal care.

Preferred Entry Level:

Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

A Work Placement and / or access to working with or caring for animals is desirable.
