Course Description
Acting for ZOOM Camera
Flying Turtle Productions (Formerly the Abbey School of Drama)
ABOUT ZOOM…
This past year I have spent a LOT of time creating projects on ZOOM working collaboratively with actors, directors and writers in locations all over the world to create new characters for films and plays for ZOOM. (TransAtlantic Tales with AboutFACE Theatre / Origin Theatre Festival, a feature film called Bluefish with Stacey Keech and about 30 other actors, original monologues and stories with LipZinc theatre, callbacks for international ads, and many more!) There is even a TV series called Staged that was created for the ZOOM production for TV.
Auditions and callbacks are now happeing on ZOOM, with directors and producers in other countries. ZOOM is here to stay in the industry, so this is a great opportunity to hone your skills!
These classes will be completely interactive and you will have to prepare and perform every class.
You must have a good steady connection to the internet, and a laptop or tablet device with a camera and microphone (smart phone alone will not suffice for this course) in order to participate in this class on ZOOM. It will be important that you are in a quiet location where you can stand, move around and make noise!
COURSE CONTENT:
This is a 7 class course on acting for the camera for those of you with some previous acting experience either in an acting class, on stage, or on sets. We will be learning acting techniques for on-camera auditions, commercial copy, improvisation, devising, comedy and serious scripted scene work.
Participants will become familiar with the filmmaking process, but emphasis will be on the acting process as tailored for the camera. We will practice techniques to develop the inner life of the character, clarify the dramatic action, and increase moment to moment awareness.
Students will be required to memorise scripts and MUST be responsible to scene partners in the later part of the course. Prior acting experience is strongly recommended.
This class has a smaller class size and is limited to 10 students maximum in order to provide the highest quality of instruction. These On-Camera classes are focused on the acting process and will involve some video playback. Because it is a process-oriented course, we do not keep or publish the work that is done in the class. This allows more time for the acting work, and less time is spent on the technical elements.
