On the NFQ, the Masters Degree is at Level 9. There are two types of Masters Degree in Ireland. Firstly, there is the taught Masters programme. This is awarded following the completion of a programme of one to two years in duration. Entry to a course of this type is usually for students who already hold an Honours Bachelor Degrees. In some cases, people with Ordinary Bachelor Degrees, or relevant professional qualifications or experience are admitted. In addition, there are the Research Masters programmes available, which typically last two years. This Level 9 qualification is awarded by Institutes of Technology, Quality and Qualifications Ireland, and Universities.
