Continuing Professional Development or CPD are stand-alone modules that can be taken after a primary degree has been achieved. This term refers to the process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge and experience gained both formally and informally in employment, beyond any initial training. Certain professional bodies require members to undertake a number of Continuing Professional Development courses or hours every year to remain certified as members or professionals. Continuing Professional Development is the means by which professionals develop and maintain their level of competency. Some courses in this area may offer certificates or diplomas which fall on the National Framework of Qualifications. Others offer specialist “CPD hours” which can count towards a professional’s annual requirements.
