Have you wanted to get active on campus but aren’t sure where to start? Now is your opportunity to shine! The UK Student Government Association (UKSGA), which is based in the Office for Student Success, is holding elections for open positions.

Student body president and vice president are among the positions available, as are college-specific senators and undergraduate and graduate at-large senators. There are 44 Senate seats available in total.

Institution-specific senators are elected solely to represent their college, and they are expected to vote and make decisions in the best interests of their peers. Senators from the undergraduate body at large represent the student body as a whole. Their voting patterns and judgments will have an impact on the entire student body. Graduate at-large senators are the same as undergraduate at-large senators, except for graduate students.

SGA enables students to develop self-confidence while bringing about positive change. It’s one of the bigger student organizations on campus, and it provides a venue for learning and socializing. SGA is a fantastic organization to join if you want to be engaged, but there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.

“SGA means so much to me and its members because it is an opportunity for any student at UK to make positive change in our community,” said Student Body President Michael Hawse. “From providing services to advocating for systemic change in our state, UKSGA is essential to making sure that students can be heard and represented in conversations all across campus and the Commonwealth.”

  • Applications for elections close at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31.
  • The presidential debate will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, location to be determined.
  • Voting opens at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, and ends 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 1.

Stay up to date on all election information by following the UK and SGA social media channels.

“Even if you aren’t interested in serving in a role, it is so essential to know the UKSGA is always available to listen and advocate on behalf of any and every student at UK,” said Hawse.
