What Does a Beauty Therapy Teacher Do?

They are expected to teach and assess on courses, act as a personal tutor to students as needed and to deliver tutorials in line with the specific college. They are to act as a marker if required, ensure students are correctly enrolled with the collage and the awarding bodies and maintain course records, and plan lessons, schemes of work and assessments. Beauty therapy teachers act as internal verifiers in line with college policy and liaise with external verifiers.  

They are expected to pay attention to the principles of effective learning such as learning styles, ICT developments, differentiation, equality of opportunity and support for students with learning disabilities and/or difficulties. Beauty therapy teachers must maintain records of progress and contribute to the development of learning resources and the curriculum. They must maintain up-to-date knowledge in the relevant course and maintain, develop and co-ordinate effective industrial links. Beauty therapy teachers must participate in and organise relevant industrial visits, attend, contribute to and co-ordinate where necessary relevant college events, including enrolment, open events, guidance, parents’ evenings and awards evenings. They must participate in the development of teaching strategies and methods towards an ethos of continuing improvements.  

What Will I Learn? 

You can expect to gain an understanding of the responsibilities, roles and relationships in training and education. The course will cover using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in training and education. Students will learn to facilitate development and learning for individuals and groups. They will gain an understanding of assessment in training and education and an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment. Generally speaking, students will be required to have access to internet, a laptop and a printer for portfolio work and essays. Additionally, they are often required to micro teach in class and obtain around 30 hours of teaching observations.
