Awarding Body : The Accreditation and Coordination of English Language Services (ACELS)
The Accreditation and Coordination of English Language Services (ACELS) is a legacy function of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). They are the national body responsible for the development and management of English Language Teaching organisations (ELTOs) nationally.
History of ACELS
The Service was established in 1969 under the auspices of the Irish Department of Education & Science. It controls standards in English Language Teaching (ELT) schools and organisations. The Service does this through an inspection and recognition scheme. The organisation publishes a list of recognised ELTOs annually.
All recognised ELTOs may carry the following legend: Recognised by ACELS, a service of Quality and Qualifications Ireland, for English language teaching.
Teacher requirements
To teach English in a recognised ELTO a teacher must have an NFQ level 7 (ordinary bachelor degree or equivalent) and a recognised ELT award.
The following are the awards recognised by the Service:
- CELT
CELTA
Trinity ESOL
