Course Description
Creative Writing
Killester College of Further Education
Creative Writing is a ten-week course in which I go through the dos and don’ts of fiction/non-fiction writing and how a budding writer can make their work more attractive to publishers and editors. Each week there are a few tips on how to approach say describing scenes/situations or creating storylines.
Typically, each week of the course goes through one aspect of Creative Writing: plotting, creating characters, dialogue, descriptive language, style, researching material, how to get published etc. Each week I present samples of writing by established authors/journalists, highlighting what works and what doesn’t.
Participants are encouraged to submit samples of their own work and talk about what they like, although that’s not mandatory. The course is helpful for total novices and those who might have had a few pieces published already.
There is no homework although each week the participants get detailed notes about the class with pointers towards improving their own writing.
